In the frame of the seismic microzonation of Fabriano, carried out after the 1997-1998 seismic sequence in the Umbro-Marchesan Apennines, the National Group for Protection Against Earthquakes (GNDT) undertook the reconstruction of the seismic history at the site and a scenario of damage for the largest known historical earthquake (1741, April 24). The aim was to provide data useful for checking the microzonations results from the viewpoint of their stability in time.

The aim was to provide data useful for checking the microzonations results from the viewpoint of their stability in time.

This paper relates how these task were accomplished, which problems had to be solved and what preliminary results have been achieved, with special reference to the identihcation of those parts of the urban area that could have been systematically damaged during the major earthquakes on record in the seismic history of Fabriano.
