Physical and numerical analysis of reinforced rock joint behaviour

 

The paper refers about experimental and analytical studies carried out in order to investigate the mechanical behaviour of rock discontinuities reinforced by passive bolts. The paper, in particular, examines the influence that geometrical features of the bolt system have on the overall resistance ofa discontinuous medium.

 

The paper refers about experimental and analytical studies carried out in order to investigate the mechanical behaviour of rock discontinuities reinforced by passive bolts. The paper, in particular, examines the influence that geometrical features of the bolt system have on the overall resistance ofa discontinuous medium.

Shear tests were carried out on a set of concrete blocks reinforced by steel hars installed perpendicularly to the contact planes separating the blocks. Block displacements were measured during the tests at each assigned loading step up to the collapse of the reinforced block structure and the shear force-discontinuity displacement curve was determined.

Analitycal and numerical models were used to evaluate the experimental results gathered during these tests and to determine the different shear strength components of the reinforced blocky system.
